I think there could be potential PR value in Pinterest. Companies cannot share mass amounts of information through Pinterest. However, there are many users that can be reached. To reach these viewers successfully you would need to capture your audience’s attention quickly since the main form of communication is a picture, comment, and/or link. If you capture your viewer’s attention with the picture, you can persuade them to seek out more information through the link you provide.

I think Pinterest is a fad that will stick around for a while. It is quick and easy to use which appeals to a large portion of the public due to busy lifestyles. There is not a lot of work or reading required to enjoy Pinterest. It is a fun and relaxed way to share information with others and find things that interests you. To me, Pinterest seems to be more of a relaxing way to spend downtime than getting involved in the sometimes hectic social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

I do have a Pinterest account. I have had it for a few months and have not used it very much. I enjoy signing on occasionally to get ideas for art projects and find out how to accomplish certain hair styles. While looking through different pins, I have also found myself becoming interested in other items such as unique clothing and places to visit someday. I don’t get on Pinterest everyday like I do Facebook. I am not completely sure why I haven’t gotten hooked on Pinterest like I have other sites. It could be because it is fairly new to me, or perhaps it is due to the lack of actual communication between friends.

I would, and have, recommend Pinterest to friends. I think it is a great way to spend some downtime and come across some new and interesting ideas. Pinterest has a lot to offer; categories range from clothing and personal style to must-read books and recipes. It works great if you are looking for new ideas, hunting down an old idea, or just plain bored.

Valentine’s Day

I was given one of the best Valentine’s Day gifts that I have ever received this year. Over Christmas break I found a sun dress (yes a sun dress during Christmas) that I fell in love with. Even though we were in the dead of winter, the dress was still rather expensive so I did not purchase it. I found the dress at a Charming Charlies in Macon, Ga. I’m from Newnan and we also have a Charming Charlies there. My mom visited the Charming Charlies in Newnan with intentions to purchase this dress for me for Valentine’s Day. They did not have the dress in stock at this particular location. However, the workers instructed my mom to order the dress online. When my mom went home to order the dress she discovered that Charming Charlies only sells accessories online, not clothing. My gift this year from my mom came in the form of a phone call and a promise. She told me she will hunt this dress down and mail it to my address in Statesboro. She also apologized that it would not be here on time for Valentine’s Day. The fact that my mom remembered this dress and my love for it from the one time I mentioned it and went through such extremes to find it for me is a gift in itself. It really is the thought that counts.

I do not believe in a bad gift. If someone takes you into consideration when purchasing a gift, it doesn’t matter what it is. However, if I had to choose the worst Valentine’s Day gift I got, it would be the gift I received from my boyfriend last year. He asked me ahead of time what I wanted for Valentine’s Day and I told him it didn’t matter what he got me, as long as it wasn’t flowers and chocolate. I didn’t want chocolate because I was starting my Spring Break diet. I didn’t want flowers because, at the time, I considered them to be a waste of money. When Valentine’s Day rolled around last year I was excited to see what my boyfriend purchased me for the special occasion. Of course, it was flowers and chocolate. I teased him about the gift and laughed it off. I thought it was much more humerus than insulting that he purchased the two things I told him not too. The real gift was getting to pick on him the rest of the day and giving the two of us something to laugh about.

If I worked for a greeting card company, florist or chocolate manufacturer I would try to persuade the public to buy from me rather than my competitor during Valentine’s Day by showing them what my company offers that others do not. We might have more convenient locations, better prices, higher quality products, faster delivery, or any number of other perks. I would do this through any or all forms of advertising, such as: radio, commercials, posters/fliers, news/magazine articles, etc.

Social Media in the PR world

Social media has changed the world of PR in several different ways. The wide use of the internet has led to the vast creation of social media sites. This allows PR professionals to continuously use social media, regardless of where they are, to accomplish tasks their job might present them with daily. Social media is an ease of access to the PR world. It assists professionals in doing their jobs and consumers in viewing immense amounts of information regarding an organization. It does not only supply information, it allows for comments and interaction between the organization and its consumers. Therefore, I think social media has changed the world of PR for the better.

I have seen and heard of several instances where companies employ social media workers who have no background in public relations. I believe that whether or not it hurts the company or individual differs on a case-to-case basis. I have seen this work out for many small organizations. However, I can see where individuals without prior training could have difficulty when/if certain issues present themselves. It is important to be skilled in several different areas in order to accomplish more tasks and fill more shoes in the work place.

Books VS. Movies

If faced with the option to read a book or its equitant as a film, I would personally prefer to read the book than watch the movie. The book typically has more information and is able to go more in-depth with the storyline. However, I don’t always have time to sit down and read a book. This is where movies come in handy. I like to read the book and then watch the movie. It can be interesting, at times, to see the difference between the written work and the film. Sometimes the books are so different from the movies that I can enjoy both separately and equally.

One example of this is True Blood. True Blood is a television series and not a movie, but I think it applies well to this theory. I watched the first three seasons of True Blood before I read any of the books. I was so hooked that I couldn’t wait for the next season to premier to find out what happened next. Therefore, I went to my local book store and purchased the entire Sookie Stackhouse novel collection. I was hooked all over again by the end of the first book. The television series and book follow the same basic storyline. However, there are so many subtle differences between the television series and the book that it was like coming across a whole new story.

There is typically one that I enjoy more so than the other. I preferred the Harry Potter books over the movies. With True Blood though, I found myself engulfed in both the book and TV. series and I enjoy them differently. I believe this has a lot to do with the director’s and screen writer’s’ interpretation of the book and how they transform it into a movie or TV. series.

My Bucket List

There are so many things that I would like to accomplish in my life. One of the more obtainable goals that I have is to travel. I would love to see Spain, Italy, France, Australia, basically most of Europe. I would really love to live overseas for at least a year or two. I think it is really important to experience different cultures and meet new people. I would also love to see historical landmarks around the world and get a first-hand look at the items and places I read about in my History books.

The next item on my bucket list is to obtain a job that simply makes me happy. Regardless of what it is, I want to find that one job that I love doing. I haven’t gotten into the full-time work field just yet, so there is no telling what I am going to end up enjoying. I think it is important for everyone to pleasure in their career field.

The last practical item on my bucket list is to eventually settle down and get married. I would also love to have kids one day and help them live their lives to the fullest as well. I need a few more life experiences before I decide to have children. The more fulfilling of a life I have, the more I can assist my kids in leading a fulfilling life.

One of the more unrealistic items on my list is to be in a movie. I have always had a passion for theater. Hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?

I think the most important item on my bucket list is to live a happy life. None of these things really matter as long as I have a fulfilling life and can appreciate every day that is given to me.
